Barbara Goldenberg Gardens

Places of learning and enjoying Nature’s beauty, these gardens came to fruition through the generosity of our community’s many supporters.  You can take a photo tour by clicking here.

Safran Family Playground – a beautiful complex of climbing play structures and safety surfaces in lovely earth tones designed for young children, this is one of the school’s most popular play areas.

The Anawalt Farm Garden – This extensive garden offers children the opportunity to learn about and experience organic farming, using the raised planters and trees to grow fruits and vegetables.

Butterfly and Wildlife Garden –  Flowering California native plants attract and nourish birds and butterflies, donated by Julie Newmar.

California Native Plant Garden – Planted by Girl Scout Troop 808 with support from Laurie McCormick and former Girl Scouts Shirley Desser and Sue Ellen Douglas, this garden showcases some of Southern California’s most beautiful flowering shrubs.

The Quad – Shaded by large London Plane trees and Jacarandas, this green space serves as a meeting and gathering spot, surrounded by murals handpainted by the school children.

Sir Isaac Newton Garden – Apple trees are the centerpiece of this quiet spot in which to contemplate the mysteries of gravity and the universe.  Sponsored by the Bodek Family.

Meditation Garden  – located in a quiet, peaceful  corner of the school, this garden surrounds a Bodhi Tree, the same kind of tree under which Buddha meditated while seeking enlightenment, and was donated  by Sunshine Stone in memory of her son Robert.

Redwood Grove – California’s remarkable Redwood trees, Sequoia Sempervirens, are planted above the Mural wall depicting forest flora and fauna below.

Native American Council Garden – rimmed with boulders for seating and shaded by tall pine trees, this garden is a meeting place and outdoor classroom.

Shirley Desser Literary Garden – With arbors, benches and decorative tiles painted with quotes from children’s literature, this is a literary-inspired meeting place.

California Mission Garden and Grape Arbor –  With a large tiled wall depicting a California mission, historical replicas of a mission-style oven and water well, planted with olive trees, grape vines and other plants introduced to California Missions, this garden, sponsored by Shirley and Ralph Shapiro, provides an opportunity to study our state’s history.
